Alpecin Double Effect Shampoo Review

After trying Alpecin C1 and Alpecin Liquid, I thought it was only fair to give the Double Effect shampoo a try. I have used this shampoo, which is a couple of pounds more expensive than the C1 version, for the past month, and I have to say the results haven't been as bad as I may have predicted. 

While the other two products in this range left my hair feeling rather flat and greasy, the Double Effect formula gave my hair a little boost in the appearance of thickness and density. Ok, so I have tried better shampoos for hair loss, but this product certainly isn't all that bad.

"Pleasantly surprised"

A bottle of this stuff lasted me just over four weeks, but I only wash my hair every other day, therefore it may not last that long for other people who prefer to wash their hair daily. 

Alpecin Double Effect shampoo didn't regrow any hair, but I have always been realistic when it comes to hair loss treatment shampoos, so I wasn't too disappointed by this. I'll be gob-smacked if there has been any solid evidence of this product growing new hair in patients. It just isn't that advanced, unfortunately.

It's also hard to know how effective this shampoo was for slowing down and stopping my hair loss, due to the fact I am already taking HR23+ which has stopped my hair fall completely. It'll be hard to accurately rate any products I take from now on unless I stop using HR23+, which I have no intention of doing.

Alpecin Liquid Hair Energizer Review

You may have seen one of my earlier posts on here where I reviewed Alpecin C1 Shampoo. It's my intention to try the whole Alpecin range, so next on my list was the Alpecin Liquid Hair Energizer.

I was quite intrigued by this formula, as it's quite different when it comes to topical hair treatments. The blue liquid texture of this formula actually applies onto the scalp really well, and absorbs in deeply with little fuss. 

This product claims it can halt hair loss and promote hair growth, but from my experience of using it for just under four weeks, none of these claims showed any evidence of being reality. Again, much like the Alpecin C1 shampoo, this liquid left my hair looking awfully greasy and very flat at times. I struggled to give my hair extra volume after using this liquid, even through hair styling products.

If Alpecin Liquid actually did regrow hair, then I wouldn't mind the flatness and grease so much, but it didn't, so I won't be bothering with this hair formula again. Who knows though, it might work for other people, and at just £6 per bottle, it's definitely worth trying out.

In my humble opinion though, this is more of a gimmick that beefs up the Alpecin brand.


Bear in mind, this is not a shampoo. It's more in the mould of a hair serum, that you apply onto the scalp and leave in.

Alpecin C1 Hair Energizer Review

Alpecin C1 is the fastest selling hair loss treatment shampoo across Europe - or so the commercial tells us. I was quite keen to get to get my hands on this product, as I wanted to know how effective the caffeine could be for stopping my balding. 

For about £5, there wasn't really much to lose, so I purchased a bottle from my local Sainsbury's supermarket and put it to the test that evening. 

If I'm completely honest, I wasn't all that impressed with Alpecin C1 shampoo. It had its positives but it certainly wasn't short on its negatives too. I used Aplecin C1 for about four weeks, and the results remained the same from the first application to the last. 

The texture and consistency of this shampoo felt good, and it lathered pretty well too. The instructions on the bottle state to leave the formula in your hair for at least a couple of minutes before washing out, which I did. I loved the way the shampoo felt when it was lathered and sinking into my hair. It felt fresh with a slight chilly tingle, which kind of set it apart from other shampoos I had tried before.

Now for the negatives. This shampoo did not in any way shape or form slow down or stop my hair loss, and it certainly didn't have any effect growing new hair. But this wasn't all that surprising for a product that costs just £5. I also didn't like the way my hair felt after using Alpecin C1. My hair felt flat, greasy and thin, which surprised me as I was expecting the complete opposite from this type of product.
