Tip to Prevent Hair Loss #5
If you use them incorrectly, dry shampoos can in fact be quite harmful to your locks. Now, before I put you off using your favourite dry shampoo, it should be noted that they do not cause hair loss conditions such as male pattern baldness, but using dry shampoos with an element of caution is always advised.
If you're an avid reader of this blog, you'll be aware that I have promoted the use of dry shampoo, and it also has a regular place in my hair care routine. But, after stumbling on an interesting article on dry shampoos, I have realised they should be used correctly in order to get the best out of your hair.
Dry shampoos can in fact damage hair strands, which isn't exactly ideal for hair loss sufferers. It's a bit like the piece I wrote on the Dax Wax styling product - the thick texture of the product makes it extremely hard to wash out, therefore it can cause pulling of the hair strands, which can lead to hair fall. Dry shampoos work in a similar way, but not by pulling hair out. Instead, the product can leave hair unnaturally dry, leaving your locks flaky and damaged, which in turn can lead to hair shedding.
Fear not though, my dry shampoo loving friends, you can still use dry shampoos without worrying about it damaging your already fragile locks - it's just a case of not abusing it - like most things in life. People who suffered from severe cases of hair damage through using dry shampoo, was mainly down to the fact they were overusing the stuff and also using it as a substitute for actually washing their hair!
First thing's first - look after your hair by keeping it clean and treated. Using dry shampoo is fine, providing you are not using it instead of washing your hair. Once my hair is clean and treated, I sometimes use a very small amount of dry shampoo to give my locks a lift, some extra volume and a nice scent. I do not suffer from hair damage because I am careful. So, if you're keen on dry shampoo, then keep using it, but use it correctly and always put the health of your hair well before the appearance of it.

Summer is bad for Hair Loss
The sun is out, the climate is warmer and the holiday season begins. Yes, it's that time of the year when we all look forward to summer!
But for many hair loss sufferers out there, the hot season can be the most daunting time of the year for a number of reasons, and I can totally relate to this. In this post I shall take you through a number of reasons why, I personally, fear at the thought of going through these three long months, and yes, it's all to do with my hair!
Sunlight exposes a thinning scalp
Now, many of my readers will already know that I have managed to stop my hair loss problem that I started suffering with around six or seven years ago, but my concerns about hair fall and thinning scalp still remain. My hair isn't as thick as it was when I was 21, and it probably never will be again, so my life is now dedicated to maintaining a healthy head of hair for as long as I can.
It's a common known fact that any kind of light shining on your scalp will reveal and accentuate any thinning or balding. I remember when I first started thinning at around the age of 25, and that summer quite a few people noticed this during a time my hair was exposed in the sunlight. I am much more secure about my hair these days, but the problem still exists. My advice? If you aren't all that keen on wearing hats, just add a little hair spray or hair building fibres to your hair in order to conceal any thinning patches.
A dip in the sea can reveal everything!
You may be able to cover up or conceal a thinning scalp with products, but what the heck are you supposed to do once your hair gets wet? Let's face it, our hair gets wetter in the summer more than any other season, with regular dips in the sea, swimming pools and water pistol fights. Also, don't forget we also sweat far more in the hotter months of the year, which can leave our locks looking greasy and thinner.
We shed more hair in the summer
Like dogs, we humans tend to shed hair in the summer, for the same reason - to keep our bodies cool. Fear not though, any shedding in the summer is usually reversed as the colder months come into play, but let's face it, if you suffer from thinning hair the last thing you'll want to happen is further shedding.
Yes, summer season can suck, but worrying about your hair shouldn't ruin your summer like it has for me over the years. I have managed to find a way to relax through the summer months, simply by upping my hair care routine, making sure my hair is getting the very best treatment it deserves. Yes, expect some wear and tear if you are active by nature, but as long as you look after your hair, feed it and protect it, you should be able to start enjoying yourself, worry free.

Tip to Prevent Hair Loss #4
Ok, so before I review a few more hair loss treatments that I've tried over the past couple of months, I just wanted to put a little something out there for my readers in the way of defeating hair loss. It's a tip, and for me it happens to be working.
Drink plenty of fresh water. Seriously, I know this sounds insane, but since I got my body into shape with lots of exercise and healthy foods, my hair thickness and growth has been far stronger than it was when I was starting to lose my hair over five years ago.
Now, it's well documented on here that I do use a few products that have been hugely effective for my hair, but I'm telling you, drinking plenty of water throughout the day has done wonders for my hair.
I'm not suggesting for one minute that drinking water is a cure for hair loss, because that would be totally insane, right? What I am suggesting is that by drinking plenty of fresh water in conjunction with a healthy diet and exercise, all these factors play a big part in the prevention of hair loss and promotion of thicker hair growth.
Be sure to keep an eye out on my latest hair loss product reviews that'll be hitting the blog over the coming weeks. you won't wanna miss them...

Tip to prevent Hair Loss #2
They key here is to buy argan oil in its purest form, with no additional additives or moulding solutions. Apply a small amount of this oil onto your scalp just before you go to bed every night. Work into your scalp using steady, circular motions, and leave in to sink into your scalp overnight. Then wash your hair as normal every morning, and repeat the process in the evening.
Now, I wouldn't say this technique has stopped my hair loss, but it has added an incredible amount of bulk and shine to my hair. As you'll know from reading my blog, I have been using Head & Shoulders Endurance shampoo for a while, but I recently replaced this shampoo with a new Argan Oil Shampoo made by Tesco (see image below). I figured that if I was use pure argan oil on my scalp every night, then why not wash my hair every morning with a argan oil based shampoo?
The shampoo itself is pretty decent - with a thick texture to it, it lathers extremely well and leaves the hair looking high in volume and shine, even with the addition of an application of a dull matte clay hair styling product. I now use the argan oil formulas as part of my daily routine in conjunction with HR23+ tablets, and my hair has never looked or felt as strong as it currently does today.
So, to confirm, if you're noticing hair fall and thinning on top, get yourself a pure argan oil solution, apply onto your scalp every night before before bed, then wash out with shampoo (argan oil shampoo from Tesco is my recommendation) in the morning.
It might not solve your hair loss problem completely, but it'll certainly add volume to your hair and help with the thinning.
