My Top Hair Loss Treatments of the Year

The Most Effective Products for Hair Growth

With another year almost at its end, I can't quite believe how quickly the past 12 months has gone by.  Since I started losing my hair, I have always used this time of year to asses the state of my hairline and scalp. The good news is, I still have a relatively decent head of hair, which fills me with confidence for 2018.

I feel like I have found a good set of products that have enabled me to maintain a good, healthy head of hair, and long may this trend continue.  As this will most likely be my final post of the year, I do feel it is necessary to let my readers know how I have been getting on with my hair loss journey.

So, without further ado, here are the hair products that I rank the highest and that have worked best for me.  If you're an avid reader of my blog, then some of these products won't be of any surprise to you, but I hope these recommendations work for more men (and women) suffering from hair loss, just as well as they have for me...

Top Shampoo for Hair Growth

I have used two shampoos over the years that have given me great hair growth results, one being Head & Shoulders Hair Endurance for Men, and the other being OGX Biotin & Collagen. If I am to choose one, then OGX Biotin & Collagen would just about edge it for me.  This thick textured formula does a terrific job on my locks, increasing the thickness and volume instantly.

This shampoo isn't a hair loss treatment, but it is certainly a must-use formula for better, stronger, healthier hair growth.

Top Topical Solution for Hair & Scalp

I have tried a fair few topical serums over the years, and even though I don't think I have found the right solution just yet, I have settled on Minoxidil, for now at least.  I did try Regaine for nearly a year back in the early days of treating my baldness, and I wasn't particularly impressed with it, but after trying a hat full of topical liquids, I decided to go back on the Minoxidil, just as a backup to the products I am already using.

When it comes to buying Minoxidil, it really doesn't matter what brand it is - Minoxidil is Minoxidil after all - so, just make sure it's the 5% solution if you are male, and 2% if you are female.  I am currently using the Kirkland 5% Foam, due to it being half the price of Regaine.

Top Hair Growth Supplement

As many of you will already know, I am a big fan of HR23+ hair supplement, and I have not looked back since I started usin it a few years ago. This multi-vitamin hair supplement contains the right blend of ingredients that has helped me prevent the severe pattern of shedding, and promoted healthier, thicker hair growth.
Unless something spectacular comes along, I won't be changing my hair supplement any time soon. If you suffer from early stages of thinning hair, then seriously consider trying HR23+, and even though it's a little on the expensive side, it's totally worth it.

Top Hair Growth Device

Now, not every hair treatment is a pill that you consume or a serum/shampoo that can be applied. There are numerous hair brushes, infrared combs and laser devices widely available on the market that claim they can reverse the effects of baldness.  However, I have opted for the dermaroller.
It doesn't really matter what brand you use, dermarollers are pretty much all the same.  About every 10 days or so, I use a dermaroller along my hairline to help active hair follicles.  If you stick with it, you'll notice new hair sprouting up.  This isn't an overnight fix, but I'm sure anyone suffering from hair loss would more than welcome new hairs popping up.  Try it.

What is the best Hair Supplement?

What is the best hair supplement I have tried?

I frequently get asked what hair loss treatments I rate the best. So, I have decided to split my answer into a couple of categories, starting here with my top rated hair supplements.

I'll be covering topical solutions (shampoos, serums, lotions etc.) in my next post, but here I shall give you guys a run down of the best hair supplements I have tried for my hair loss.

My rating of each supplement is based on how effective they were in the prevention of hair fall and the stimulation of hair growth.  Just remember, these are my opinions only, and results will vary with each individual.  What might work better for me, may not work as effectviely for you.

Biotin 10,000mcg
Biotin is used in pretty much every decent hair supplement on the market, and if you're serious about enhancing your hair, you should really consider getting yourself a bottle of Biotin pills.

Using Biotin, my hair grew faster and stronger, which was great, but it still didn't solve my hair loss problem - I was still experiencing hair fall, therefore I knew this wouldn't be a long term solution for me.

Even though Biotin wouldn't cut it on its own, I was still keen to keep it in my diet, as it would surely pair up well with a DHT blocker...

Biotin ratings:
Effectiveness: 2/5
Safety: 3/5
Affordability: 5/5
Score = 10/15

Saw Palmetto
...and that brings me to my next supplement - Saw Palmetto. Even though more tests are needed, Saw Palmetto has shown to be a DHT blocker.

I started using Saw Palmetto a while back, and I can honestly say it has worked pretty well for me. I definitely noticed less hair falling out from using it, but there was still room for improvement.

This is the point I started searching for multi-vitamin supplements that contained Saw Palmetto and Biotin, along with other hair beneficiary ingredients that could help prevent hair loss and encourage better hair growth.

Saw Palmetto ratings:
Effectiveness: 3/5
Safety: 3/5
Affordability: 4/5
Score = 10/15

Nutrafol
I tried Nutrafol a while back, and from looking at the ingredients list, I kinda knew what to expect from this American supplement, I thought I'd give it a try anyway.

Containing ingredients like saw palmetto which have worked excellent for me, I only used this supplement for a few months, as I was already happy using a different product that was working well for me at the time.

Although I didn't notice much change in my hair in the way of growth, I was pleased to see that it seemed to help the prevention of hair fall.  I gave this product a rating of 3/5, but perhaps I should have used it longer in order to give it a fairer trial.  Overall though, it could be a viable option for your hair, but be warned, it is very expensive.

Nutrafol ratings:
Effectiveness: 3/5
Safety: 5/5
Affordability: 2/5
Score = 10/15

Viviscal
Ok, so I only rated Viviscal 2/5, and looking back that does seem rather harsh. This is a good supplement with some really great ingredients in it.

I think I was so miserable at the time of using this, after my dreadful experience using TRX2, that perhaps I never really gave Viviscal a fair chance. I also discovered an effective solution at the time of using Viviscal, therefore I didn't complete the three months trial that I had intended.

Anyway, even though both products are similar in additives and performance, I have rated Viviscal slightly ahead of Nutrafol based on the price. Viviscal is much more affordable and they also offer multi-pack deals, which Nutrafol doesn't seem to do.  I would recommend Viviscal if you suffer from early stages of baldness.

Viviscal ratings:
Effectiveness: 3/5
Safety: 5/5
Affordability: 3/5
Score = 11/15

Procerin
I cam across Procerin quite early on in my hair loss journey, and I was initially really impressed with these tablets. They seemed to be working a treat during the first two to three months, which I was absolutely delighted about.

With a generous dosage of Saw Palmetto, Procerin was definitely reducing the pattern of hair loss. I noticed much less hair on my pillow every morning, and less hair in the shower too. My hair didn't appear thicker in any way, but the rate of hair fall was definitely less.

However, after about three months, my hair started falling out again, which was devastating to say the least. In the hope it might have been natural shedding, I continued to use Procerin for another three months, but I still seemed to be losing hair.

Now, I still rate this supplement highly because it did work during certain periods of using it, but for whatever ever reason, the results didn't last the distance.  However, I would consider using Procerin again in conjunction with Biotin, if I did not have the alternative that I am using now.

Procerin ratings:
Effectiveness: 3/5
Safety: 4/5
Affordability: 4/5
Score = 11/15

HR23+
My number one supplement for treating hair loss is, without question, HR23+ hair health capsules. This supplement has been the most effective treatment for my hair loss problem, and I discovered it at a time when I was really getting desperate.

Based on a key formula of hair growth agents and DHT blockers, this seemed like the perfect solution I was looking for.  The ingredients are not revolutionary, but I was familiar with most of them anyway.
I have been using HR23+ for a couple of years now, and it has done just about everything possible for my hair. It has slowed down the rate of hair fall to the point where I just don't lose any more hair. I genuinely believe that HR23+ has halted my blading completely.  My hair has never looked thicker and better than it does since I started using this supplement. I am very pleased with it, and I would obviously recommend it to anyone in the same situation as me.

HR23+ ratings:
Effectiveness: 4/5
Safety: 5/5
Affordability: 3/5
Score = 12/15

I shall be going through the best topical solutions in my next post, so stay tuned...

The end of another year battling hair loss

My regular readers will have noticed that I haven't been as active on here as usual over recent weeks, but that doesn't mean I am lacking things to write about - heck, I could write about the subject of hair loss for a whole decade, if time allowed me to.

The truth is, with Christmas fast approaching and me being extremely busy at work, I just haven't had the time to update you all, as I would have liked to. So, I can confirm that this will be my last post of 2016, so I guess you could call this my 'end of year review'.

With the winter season well and truly on its way, there are certain alterations that a hair loss sufferer needs to make to his/her hair care routine. As I have already mentioned in my blog, autumn season is the season of shedding. Yes, that's right, if you have noticed an increase in hair fall since the end of the summer, then don't worry, because this is a normal process of hair shedding, which should come to an end as winter fully sets in.

We are not much different to animals, in the sense they also shed fur in preparation for a 'new coat' during the colder months. The problem is, if you suffer from pattern baldness like me, there is never any real guarantee that your hair will sprout back after it has gone through the shedding process.

This is why it is essential to give your hair the very best chance of getting through the autumn period so it can flourish during the peak winter season. A few little adjustments I have made to my hair care routine this autumn have been:
  • I don't use conditioner - Hair conditioner makes the hair fine and prone to snapping/damage, therefore I completely skin using it throughout the shedding season.
  • Scalp massaging - Although more tests are needed, massaging the scalp can stimulate the growth of hair cells, therefore I make it my mission to gently massage my scalp, using pure argan oil, in order to help stimulate hair growth. I honestly couldn't tell you if this works or not, but it's definitely worth a try.
  • Diet - You really are what you eat, and this phrase also applies to your hair. Try and eat high-protein foods such as fish and eggs. We depend on good, clean protein for the development and strength of many parts of our body, and our hair also benefits hugely from it.
  • Biotin - Although I get a good daily hit of biotin from using HR23+ Hair Health Supplement, I have decided to increase my daily intake, just for the autumn season. I take biotin pills in conjunction with HR23+, and I know a lot of the biotin will go to waste, as there is only so much you body can process, I still feel it is a necessary measure to take in order to get the best out of my hair.

Year highlights?

This has only been my second year of blogging, and I have enjoyed it for the most part. I have tried some pretty cool products for my hair over the past five or six years, and although there have been some pretty terrible ones out there, I have also had the pleasure of using treatments that have given me great results.

I would say the best topical formula that you can purchase for hair loss is Minoxidil. It doesn't matter what brand you use, as long as it is minoxidil (5% for men and 2% for women). If I'm totally honest, I don't actually rate 'topical solutions' for hair loss, as I don't feel they actually work. But minoxidil would be the one I would reluctantly recommend due to it being FDA approved. The results would still be very minimal at best.

I have tried some pretty good supplements for my hair, but the best is HR23+ by a long way. I was struggling to find anything that would help slow down the rate of my hair loss until I came across HR23+. It hasn't acted as a cure for hair loss, but I can confirm that it has assisted in slowing down the rate of hair fall whilst encouraging stronger hair growth. It has also enabled me to seek more options. So, if I was to recommend a good hair health supplement, then it would be HR23+.

I guess we are all still waiting in anticipation for that out-and-out cure for hair loss, but despite the advances of science, we're still no nearer to knowing exactly when/if that day will ever come. You could sit around waiting for the ultimate hair loss cure, or you could try your best to fix the problem.

I have spent years (literally) researching and trying hair loss treatments, in the hope something would work for me. And although I know there isn't cure for male pattern baldness, I do know for certain that if I hadn't tried to stop my hair loss all those years ago, I'd have substantially less hair than I do right now.

So, another year is drawing to an end, and I still have my hair intact. I'll definitely take that. Thanks for reading my posts, and I truly wish you all a happy festive season. May next year be a prosperous and successful one for our hair!

PS - Many of you have emailed me asking to see my hairline. So, here's another picture of how my hairline currently looks...

See you all in 2017!

8 Hair Loss Prevention Products You Must Try

Hair loss really sucks, and if you've read other posts in my blog, you'll know I would do just about anything to keep my hair for longer - and that includes trying most products/treatments.

A fantastically thick shampoo with hair growth ingredients biotin and collagen. It's been great for my hair after just a couple of weeks using it.

2 = HairMaker Hair building Fibres
If you need to disguise or hide bald patches while you're growing your hair out, then try hair building fibres. HairMaker is brilliant and masters an excellent cover-up.

3 = Head & Shoulders Hair Endurance
Sometimes the best solutions are the cheapest and right on your doorstep. Head & Shoulders Hair Endurance adds thickness and strength to the hair.

Another excellent shampoo that I use every other day in conjuntion with Head & Shoulders Hair Endurance. Argan is the fastest growing shampoo in popularity. Try it!

7 = Viviscal ManNot as good as HR23+, but Viviscal is a decent hair health supplement, nevertheless. I don't use this anymore, but I would recommend it for men suffering from early stages of hair loss.

8 = Protein Hair CreamYou can never add too much protein to your hair, so if you can get your hands on a good biotin based hair cream, seriously, do it. It's an excellent addition to your treatment routine, that'll keep your hair fully fed with key hair beneficiary additives.
